What is Trauma?

Trauma is a term used to describe an event or experience that is deeply distressing and overwhelms an individual's ability to cope. Trauma can be caused by a single event or a series of events that are experienced over time.

The impact of trauma can also extend to social and interpersonal relationships. Trauma survivors may struggle to form close relationships and may find it difficult to trust others. They may also experience difficulties in their personal and professional lives, such as difficulty with concentration and memory, difficulty with decision-making, and difficulty maintaining employment.

Seeking Help and Support

It is important for individuals who have experienced trauma to seek help and support. Trauma-focused therapy can be beneficial in helping individuals process their experiences and develop coping skills. Other forms of therapy, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), can also be helpful in addressing the symptoms of trauma. In addition to therapy, support groups can be a valuable resource for trauma survivors. Attachment therapy and Gestalt techniques can be incredibly helpful to reduce the symptoms affecting daily living. Support groups provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals can share their experiences, receive validation, and gain a sense of community.
